During the pandemic, I had a lot of time to reflect on the life that I had led up to that point and slowly started to realize that I wanted to lead a more fulfilling life.
Up to this point, I had mostly concentrated on work and my responsibilities as a father.
I have always been attracted to Italian culture and decided to learn more about Italy. I was fortunate to have found Valeria who is passionate about teaching Italian and also sharing Italian culture. Through Valeria, I started learning more about a very rich culture and a more simple way of life. She is from a charming town nestled in the mountains of eastern Sicily close to Messina.
I recently had the opportunity to visit this fascinating town through the Retreat “Vita Semplice in Sicilia”,
The Retreat allowed me to interact with the people of the town and connect with nature.
I visited breathtaking places such as Mount Etna and the Argimusco and also enjoyed freshly made local dishes!!! The Retreat was a transformative experience for me and I want to be able to continue enjoying this feeling of a simpler way of life!!! I was so taken by this incredible place that I already started the process of buying a small house in the town’s historic centre. I feel that I am already part of the town and do not want to let go of this sense of belonging and well-being!!

DAY ONE
Welcome to Catania Airport! As you begin your voyage to San Piero Patti, take in the captivating scenery that surrounds you. Your check-in experience will be followed by a warm and inviting welcome aperitivo, setting the tone for an unforgettable stay.
DAY TWO
Relax and savor the day at a leisurely pace. Today, time will move gently. We’ll explore the town of San Piero Patti and pick up some goodies at the market to get ready for our afternoon workshop. Following lunch, we’ll delve into the art of crafting an Italian aperitif.
DAY THREE
Prepare yourself for a day excursion to the summit of Etna, Europe’s loftiest active volcano. Later in the day, we’ll make a stop at a local winery for a delightful wine tasting experience, paired with an array of delicious local products.
DAY FOUR
Unwind, relax, and savor the tranquility of the Agriturismo. You might want to consider participating in a calming yoga class, a pottery workshop or taking some free time. Later in the afternoon, an exciting cooking class is on the agenda, where you’ll master the art of creating delicious arancini!
DAY FIVE
Prepare for another adventure, this time a visit to a cheese dairy in the mountains. Here, you’ll delve into the intricacies of their local cheese production and savor delectable cheeses paired with wine. In the afternoon, we’ll explore a hidden treasure in the Nebrodi park and uncover its intriguing ancient history.
DAY SIX

Throughout the retreat, we participated in a variety of activities, that helped me to feel more connected to the town, to Italian and to myself. Valeria seems to have such a talent for surrounding herself with high-quality people.
I felt truly a part of Valeria’s community. I never once felt like a burden, weird or out of place. I was out of my comfort zone most of the time, but I decided to use it as an opportunity to test myself and grow.

Ciao! I’m Valeria. A few years ago, I left my corporate career to follow a deeper calling. I’ve always been passionate about multicultural exchange and wanted to help others experience the richness of Italian language and culture—from the inside.
Today, I’m the founder of Vita Semplice in Italia: Italian teacher, language facilitator, and street food festival organizer. My love for language, teaching, and local traditions led me to create immersive retreats and courses for those seeking well-being, connection, and a simpler way of life—through the Italian language.

How many participants does the group consist of?
Each retreat is limited to a maximum of 7 participants to ensure an intimate experience.
Who is the retreat for?
The retreat welcomes Italian learners of all genders and age groups. You can select one of the two options based on your language proficiency. If you’re unsure about your level, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me to choose the best option.
Will we study Italian during the retreat?
The retreats do not involve formal and traditional Italian lessons. There are two types of retreats. “Vita Semplice in Sicilia” is a retreat for students who have an intermediate level of the Italian language.. Learning will occur naturally during activities, and Italian will be spoken all the time. “Sicilian Street Bites” is a retreat for beginners and includes mini Italian lessons focused on practical tasks in a real context (for example, ordering coffee at a bar). These lessons will last one or two hours, depending on the daily schedule.
